Fiat lovers have been eagerly looking forward to company's internally developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. The engine is believed to be a downsized version of 1.6-litre diesel engine. As per inputs from sources, Fiat has put its plans on hold for now as its key partners Maruti and Tata have been developing their very own 1.5-litre diesel engines to avoid depending on external sources.

In recent times Maruti has developed its very first 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine that serves the Celerio hatchback. The company had also downsized its 1.6-litre engine to 1.5-litre by utilizing a combination of two 800cc two-cylinder engines. It could take a while before this engine could be offered in YBA. Apart from this, the company may also offer a 1.1-litre three-cylinder option.

Tata on the other hand would also introduce its very own 1.5-litre diesel engine codenamed Osprey in upcoming Nexon compact SUV. Fiat on the other hand has also been witnessing a steep drop in sales with 694 units every month as against expected 4,500 units, it does not seem to have a concrete reason to invest heavily on manufacturing process.
