30 April 2015, 12:44 PM

Keeping the right tyre pressure is very important to keep your car safe on road. It doesn’t just help improve the fuel economy of a vehicle, but reduces the risk of blown outs and accidents. If you want to keep your new tyres inflated to the maker's recommendations, it is advisable to purchase a tyre pressure gauge.

Here are few tips to select the best tyre pressure gauge.

There are three different types of tyre pressure gauge available in the market and the one you choose will depend on your personal needs as well as budget.

Stick Gauge - It looks like a ballpoint pen, which makes it compact, affordable and simple to use. However, the Stick gauge could be difficult to read. If your garage lacks lighting or your eyes are weak, then avoid this.

Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge - It is easy to read, thanks to its electronic LCD screen that lights up in dimmer areas. Moreover, the digital gauges are robust in nature as they are most resistant to damage caused by dust and dirt.

The weight is the only disadvantage with the digital gauges. These are heavier than the stick gauges and one require batteries to keep them running. This means that on emergency situations, you need to have extra batteries to use the digital gauges.

Dial Tyre Pressure Gauge - This is the third option, which looks like a clock face. It is easier to read. However, the Dial Gauge may not be very accurate. This means that your car tyres could be under or over inflated. The Dial gauges also come with additional features including extension hose, dual-scaled dial, bleeder valve and shock resistant cover. So, if you are looking to buy a high tech pressure gauge, this could be the right option for you.
