The Tricity scooter was first showcased at the 2013 International Motorcycle exhibition (EICMA). Amidst much waiting, the scooter has finally been launched at the 2014 Bangkok International Motor Show. The scooter shall be manufactured at Yamaha's Thailand facility and will be sold in a global market. The scooter has primarily been designed to cater to the non-riding members. The new scooter with a third wheel on the front eliminates the worry for stability factor and allows the rider to commute around the city with ease.

The Tricity scooter from Yamaha is powered by 125cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected. four-stroke engine that generates about 11Ps of power and 104 Nm of torque. The fairly powered mill is mated to an automatic transmission. The scooter gets a Leaning Multi Wheel (LMW) mechanism that enables the leaning and tilting of front wheel while cornering. The Tricity weighs a decent 152 kg due to tubular frame and cast alloy wheels that are lighter in weight. The scooter comes with an intelligent fuel injection system that returns better fuel efficiency figures.

For maximum safety and control, the Yamaha Tricity features 220mm front discs and 230mm rear disc with a Unified Brake System (UBS). As per sources, owing to this new braking system the scooter's braking distance is cut short by an amazing 15%. the UBS technology is said to perform in a similar fashion like an Combi Brake System (CBS) technology seen on Honda scooters that apply both the brakes even if just the rear brake lever is applied. For comfort the scooter gets a parallelogram link and a cantilevered telescopic front suspension for tackling unexpected conditions, whereas the rear wheel gets Unit swing suspension.

Two wheeler designs from Yamaha has always been impressive. The legacy is carried forward with the Tricity scooter too. The two-wheeler gets an all-digital instrumental cluster and the under-seat storage space is capable of holding a half faced helmet with ease. The scooter looks slimmer than is said to be lighter that a traditional model of three wheeled scooters. The scooter is expected to be priced around €4,000 for the European market and shall probably make it to the Indian market sometime in 2015. The Yamaha Tricity is available in shades of four colors: Anodized Red, Mistral Grey, Competition White and Midnight Black.
