A car that can travel 100km in one liter! That’s the new VW tandem L1 project. The car is expected to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor show next week. However, new leaked images revealed by the German media are not available. The two-seater car is powered by a 29bhp two-cylinder diesel linked to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and weighs around 380kg. The car will achieve 80.61kmpl. This concept car was originally shown by Volkswagen in 2002 but the unusual light weight material used to manufacture the car made it too expensive to go into production.

Volkswagen engineers are known for their game changing designs that are extremely efficient. Although there are reports that VW CEO Martin Winterkorn has now confirmed that a plastic and magnesium super mini would indeed be built in limited numbers by 2010 and the company has started accepting orders, it still remains quite uncertain. The new concept car and its details will be clearer next week at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
