The Swedish luxury car maker Volvo is all set to launch its super luxury car Volvo S60 in the Indian market in March 2011. The S60 will arguably be the boldest car in the Volvo’s portfolio along with being the cheapest in India from Volvo. The Volvo S60 model is expected to be launched in the country in the price segment of sub Rs 30 lakh where it will be fighting for the space with the likes of BMW 320d and the Audi A4 3.0 TDI.

Initially, the car would be rolled-out with a diesel and a petrol engine option including D5 diesel and T6 turbo petrol. The car is also expected to be launched in a four-cylinder version after a few months.

The engine of D5 has been borrowed from the S80 saloon and XC60/XC90 SUVs, and is a 2.4-litre twin-turbo, straight-five diesel engine. The powerful engine of D5 is capable of generating a peak power of 205 bhp@4000 rpm along with a peak torque of 42 kgm@1500-3240 rpm. The car takes just 7.8 seconds to break the speed barrier of 100 km/hr and is capable of reaching a top speed mark of 230 km/hr.

On the other hand, the T6 twin-turbo petrol engine will be delivering a peak power of 304 bhp@5600 rpm with a top torque of 44.6 kgm @ 2100 rpm. The car takes just 6.5 seconds to cross the speed mark of 100 km/hr and reaches a top speed of 250 km/hr.
