Volkswagen, the German manufacturer, will put three cars on display at its stand at the upcoming 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo - up!, new Beetle and Touareg. The company has set its eyes on the title of the world’s biggest car maker and aims to reach the position by 2018 and the success of these vehicles will be instrumental in its plans.

The new Beetle that will be showcased at the event will be highly reminiscent of the older version, though it will bear some changes that will distinguish the two models. The new version will boast of optional bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights, keyless access, satellite navigation system and panoramic sunroof. The car will be available in three trim levels – Beetle, Design and Sport.

Despite the changes, the car will be true to the Beetle’s iconic design to quite an extent but will be much longer and wider than the current variant and have more boot space. The height of the new car will be less by 12 mm than the current model’s, giving the roofline of the vehicle a streamlined look. Though it is expected to be assimilated with four engine types, the variants launched in India will either have a 1.2-litre TSI engine with 103.5 hp or a 1.4-litre engine with TSI 158 hp. It is expected that the car will bear a price tag of Rs. 21 lacs when it will be launched.

up!, a hatchback, will also be drawing crowds to VW’s stand at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. This model was first exhibited as a concept car at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The company will probably launch a four-door version of the car in India and is likely to equip it with the 1-litre engine that was used in the Skoda Citigo. The price of the car should be within the range of Rs. 3 to 5 lacs.

The upgraded Touareg will finish VW’s line-up at the expo and the company will hope to make its mark in the SUV segment with this car. The exteriors of this car will boast of twin-slit grille with the VW logo, making it identical to the rest of the family. It is expected to be assimilated with a 3-litre diesel engine that produces 240 hp of power and should be priced close to Rs. 60 lacs.
