Following its debut in China late last year, the Teramont is set to go on sale in March. The full-size SUV is specific to China and has been developed keeping local design tastes in consideration.
The Teramont will be made under the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture. Underneath the large body, it will be offered with up to three engine options – a 2-litre TFSI with 186bhp or 220bhp and a 2.5-litre V6 developing 299bhp and 500Nm.
While the TFSI engines will be locally made, the V6 will be imported from Germany. All cars will feature a 7-speed DSG and VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The Teramont is being positioned between the locally-made Tiguan L and the Touareg which is a fully imported model in China. It competes with cars like the Toyota Highlander and the Ford Edge.
