Volkswagen, the German car maker and the largest selling marque of Volkswagen group, is stringently concentrating towards the world rally championship and other main characteristic of its motorsport event. Following with this, the company has hired Jost Capito, 53, as head of the Volkswagen Motorsport, who replaced Kris Nissen, the driver of ex-Formula 3. Kris was associated with Volkswagen since 2003. Jost has connected with the company through Ford US, wherein he was leading the international performance team.
Jost is known as a best player at Ford because of the 2009 Focus RS, wherein he surprised the audience by showing his potential to handle a 300 bhp engine in a front-wheel drive chassis. The latest growth includes Fiesta ST. With formula 1 team like Porsche and Sauber in his motorsport portfolio, Jost also has registered win as an associate driver in the truck category of Paris-Dakar Raid. Of late in Ford, he was accountable for the company’s motorsport strategy, and thus he had a complete control over the team headed by Malcolm Wilson’s M-Sport in world rally championship.
Volkswagen made its debut in the Motorsport programmes in 1963, by manufacturing Formula Vee racing circuit using easily available Beetle parts. Foreseeing a great opportunity, in 1971 Volkswagen of America started the more powerful Formula Super Vee. The car performed for almost 11 years and between the tenure it produced the world known racers of Formula one. The success of Volkswagen was carried till present as it won Dakar Rally for three years in a row, namely 2009 Dakar Rally, 2010 Dakar Rally and 2011 Dakar Rally.
