      Volkswagen Polo Gets Expensive By 2.9 percent

      The Indian unit of Europe’s largest car maker Volkswagen has announced a hike of 2.9 percent in the price of its  hatchback Volkswagen Polo. The increased prices will come into effect from 1st January, 2011. However, the customers who book this model till 31st Dec will be able to get the car on the existing prices, as stated in the press release issued by the company on Wednesday.

      As per a statement given by Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, the company has been faced with a constant rise in input cost over the past several months and have tried its best to absorb it; however, in order to continue to maintain Volkswagen’s quality standards that its customers expect from it, the company had to increase the price by a small percentage.

      Volkswagen Polo

      The Volkswagen Polo hatchback was launched n the Indian market in March 2010 as the first ever mass-segment car of the European auto giant Volkswagen in India. The car has been performing considerably well since then. In the Mar-Nov 2010 period, the company has sold over 17,000 units of Polo in the country. The Polo is currently locking horns with a number of popular cars of this segment including Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, and Fiat Punto.

      The company’s India portfolio includes more than half a dozen vehicles that comprises of premium sedans Jetta and Passat, iconic New Beetle, luxury SUV Touareg, the super luxury Phaeton, compact hatchback Polo and recently launched entry-level sedan Vento.

      Besides Volkswagen, a number of other major car makers in India have also announced to increase the price of their cars, starting from January 1st, 2011. These car makers including Maruti Suzuki, General Motors India, Hyundai Motors India and Tata Motors.
