      Volkswagen Group brands VW, Audi and Skoda register positive growth in January 2012

      Volkswagen AG, the largest auto maker in the European market, has registered a moderate sales growth of 0.1 percent in the passenger car segment in January 2012. The company managed to sell a total of 419,200 units of its car during this month as compared to 418,600 vehicles sold in the same month last year.

      The US and Central & Eastern Europe appeared as major growth markets for the company during this month. In US, the company managed to sell a total of 27,200 vehicles during this month as compared to 18,400 vehicles sold in the same month last year, witnessing a sales surge of 47.9%. On the other hand in Central & Eastern Europe, the company managed to sell a total of 16,800 passenger cars as compared to 10,000 vehicles sold in the same month last year, registering a sales growth of 67%.

      However in India, the growth of Volkswagen Group stood at 3.36% during this month, selling 5,789 units in January 2012 as compared to 5,601 units sold in the same month last year.

      Sales of luxury car brand Audi (a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG) stood at 96,100 units during this month, as compared to 95,400 units sold in the same month last year, accounting for a moderate sales growth of 0.8%. In India, the sales of Audi surged 39% to 667 cars during this month.

      Skoda Auto, which is another subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, registered a growth of 10.2% to 75,400 vehicles during January 2012. However, Volkswagen AG’s Spanish subsidiary SEAT saw a sales decline of 15.4% sales to 21,700 vehicles during this month.
