German auto maker Volkswagen will launch its electric car in India by 2013. Volkswagen Polo has been one of the fast and good performance cars in its range of small cars. Now the company is ready to introduce the electric model in the Indian market as well. The model is currently under final testing stage and will set precedence to electric range of E-Jetta as well.
Volkswagen intends to become global leader in electric car market by the year 2018. The electric models of VW Golf and Jetta will be launched in the US market by 2012.
Volkswagen CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn has announced a plan for electrifying the brand's model line up. “We want to build the electric car that everyone can afford,” Volkswagen’s Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn announced in March. First up will be a test fleet of 500 battery-powered Golfs coming next year. The Golfs will be followed in 2012 by a production hybrid version of the next-generation Jetta for the U.S. market. The company is in talks with Japanese giants Toshiba and Sanyo to source powerful and affordable lithium-ion batteries.
