The Italian car maker, Fiat, which currently has just two of its models in India, is likely to come up with a new model, Fiat Viaggio, by the end of 2013. Viaggio recently stole the show at the Beijing Motor Show, where it was showcased. The all new Viaggio will not only increase the car maker's vehicle portfolio in the country but also mark the entry of Fiat's new segment in India.
Currently, the car maker has just its Linea and Grande Punto model in the country, and does not offer much choice to the customers. While Linea comes with a price tag between Rs. 7 lacs and Rs. 9.35 lacs, Grande Punto is available for a price between Rs. 5 lacs and Rs. 7.4 lacs. It is likely that the all new Viaggio when launched would be available for Rs. 12 lacs (base variant).
The Viaggio showcased at Beijing Motor Show is believed to house a 1.4 litre engine located at front, capable of churning out a power of 120 bhp and mated with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox. However, when launched in India, it is expected that the car would have a 1.8 litre engine and would deliver a much higher power.
This new car from the stables of the Italian car maker has a very dashing and elegant look and would be available in a wide range of colour. Viaggio showcased in Beijing has a 4679 mm in length and 1850 mm in width and a wheelbase of 2708 mm. The car would come with a host of safety and comfort features and an ultra-modern look.
The car maker has given special emphasis on the interiors and the comfort feature. Viaggio would be provided with 4 doors and will have a seating capacity for 5 people. The seats have been made quite comfortable and are likely to have leather upholstery.
When launched in the country, Viaggio will compete with the likes of Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla. Corolla is available in the India for a price tag between Rs. 11 lacs and Rs. 15.5 lacs, whereas Chevrolet Cruze is available for Rs. 13.86 lacs and Rs. 15.9 lacs. As Fiat presently has no other models in this price range, Viaggio will create a new segment for it in the country. However, it would be good to see if the all new Viaggio manages to lure the trusted buyers of Cruze and Corolla.
