Jeep is currently working on a new two-door version of the standard Wrangler, as confirmed by these spy pictures of one of the prototypes. This new shortened version of the standard Wrangler will resemble the outgoing model but it will be less boxy and more aerodynamic for better economy.

Jeep will improve the aerodynamics with the help of a new fixed windshield and possibly longer front end. The Wrangler will also feature plenty of aluminum in its architecture although the body will be mostly made of steel. A new 2.0-litre turbo four, dubbed Hurricane, is slated to be housed inside the Wrangler as a more fuel-efficient option.

The Pentastar V6 with an eight-speed automatic will be the mainstream powertrain, although the big news here will be a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel for North America and likely global markets. A hybrid powertrain is also rumored to be in the works, and a 6-speed manual is confirmed in production model.

The new Jeep Wrangler, in all probability, will make its public debut at the 2017 LA Auto Show.
