Toyota Motor Corp. plans to reveal its all-new "sports car" line-up this September.

Similar to the Lexus’ F Series, Toyota is looking to establish a performance division specially focused on the performance vehicles. The new generation Supra will be the flagship model in this new line-up.

The Japanese carmaker hasn’t divulged any further details about the event or products. It is unclear whether the new performance products will be offered outside Japan or not. Currently, Toyota has the 86 sports coupe and the Yaris GRMN hot hatch in its performance car line-up. The decision to establish a performance portfolio came after Toyota’s plans to develop cars that are emotional and aspirational, rather than simply reliable and utilitarian.

Toyota is developing the new Supra alongside BMW’s new Z4. The Bavarian carmaker showcased the Z4 Concept at the Pebble Beach a few weeks back. So, we expect Toyota to follow suit and showcase at least some important details regarding the JDM icon. According to recent developments, Toyota might use their own powertrain with a manual transmission for the Supra. This contradicts the earlier speculations of the Supra borrowing the automatic gearbox and engines from the Z4 Roadster.

Toyota might also introduce a new MR2 successor to its performance car line-up. It will be based on the S-FR Concept showcased back in 2015-16. However, it is purely a speculation at this point. The Japanese carmaker has the motorsport expertise of Gazoo Racing to back up their plans for the performance oriented vehicles.
