The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese auto giant Toyota has announced to recall 41,000 units of its Etios series of cars in the Indian market, to replace the faulty inlet pipe to fuel tank. The vehicles recalled include entry level sedan Etios and compact hatchback Liva. The company however, has said that it is not a recall but a safety campaign to ensure better safety of the volume drive Etios series of cars.

In a statement given on Thursday, TKM Deputy Managing Director - Marketing Sandeep Singh said, "It is a proactive approach by us. This development is not at all dangerous but as per Toyota's worldwide policy, we are informing customers that they can come to dealers at their convenient time and replace the pipe."

There is a possibility of the filler hose cracking-up if the tank is filled at its optimum capacity, which can lead to fuel leakage. The company has said that the cars that were produced till 8th October 2011 will be included in this safety campaign. The company has emphasized that it is not a recall and rather a safety campaign as the replacement of filler hose will not take more than 30 to 45 minutes.

Earlier, in year 2008, the company had recalled 20,000 units of its hot selling multi utility vehicle Innova, in the Indian auto market. At that time also, the recall was for the replacement of a part that could lead to the leakage of oil.
