Toyota Motors plans to employ sugarcane-based PET material in vehicle interiors. This material will contain 30 percentage of sugarcane in it and it will minimize the consumption of fuel. The material is named as bio-PET or bio-polyethylene terephthalate.

Currently, this material is used only in PET bottles but now Toyota plans to use this material in car interiors for the first time in the world. According to Toyota, this bio-PET or Ecological Plastic material stands for durability and heat resistance. Toyota also believes that this material will reduce oil consumption and carbon-di-oxide emission.

This bio-PET material will be used in car seats and carpeting areas. Initially, Toyota plans to use this material in its compact hybrid Lexus CT200h as a luggage compartment liner. Toyota plans to release its first car with PET material interior in early 2011.

Soon after that, Toyota plans to extend the usage of this material in interiors and also plans to increase the usage in number of vehicles. Toyota also has a plan to launch a new car model that covers eighty percent of interior with this green eco-friendly plant-based plastic material.
