      Toyota launches official website for new Corolla Altis

      Toyota India has launched official website of its upcoming premium sedan, Corolla Altis ahead of its official launch in May. Bookings for the upgraded Corolla Altis are open at authorized Toyota dealer at a token amount of Rs 50,000, however, deliveries are expected to commence effective May end.

      The sedan will be offered in petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol variants will be powered with a 1.8 litre VVT-i, four pot, motor that pumps out a maximum power output of 140 PS along with a top torque of 173 Nm. Petrol motor will be paired to a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed automatic tranny will also be put on offing. Diesel variants will be housed with a 1.4 litre D4-D, four pot cylinder, turbocharged diesel powertrain belting out pinnacle power of 88.5 PS and peak torque of 205 Nm.

      Customers will get to choose from seven colour options including shade of blue, black, gold, grey, silver and two shades of gold. Inside the cabin, Toyota will equip Corolla with an array of features like a big 7.1 inch touch screen infotainment display, reclining rear seats covered in leather, reverse camera, navigation and keyless entry. Besides these, other equipments like electronically adjustable driver’s seat, reading lamp, rear power socket and rear sunshade will also be affixed.

      An expected starting price of Rs 14 lakh for the petrol powered manual transmission Corolla is being speculated. Automatic variant of petrol could be priced at Rs 16 lakh. Diesel basic variant could be made available for Rs 15 lakh.

      The sedan was tagged as the most popular model in the world with close to 1.22 million sales in calendar year 2013 reporting 5 per cent increase in year on year sales. Corolla’s upgraded version is already available for sale in some of the international markets and will be introduced in India by the end of May 2014. In March 2014, Toyota witnessed sharp fall in sales at 9,160 units as against 21,143 units sold in the same time last year. With the launch new Corolla Altis, Toyota could expect a tad improvement in monthly sales.
