The Indo-Japanese automaker, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is spearheading to capture higher market stake with the plans to ramp up the production capacity by 1 lakh cars to be initiated from March in the year 2013. The car maker has confirmed to infuse a huge amount of Rs. 900 crore for the elevation of the manufacture capacity at its two facilities located at Bidadi on the contours of Bangalore city.
Mr. K. Srikanth, Senior Vice-President (External Affair, Corporate Governance, Legal and CSR) and Mr. Sailesh Shetty, Vice-President (Sales) confirmed that of the two plants, the first plant manufactures 90,000 units of Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner at present, which will be surging by 10,000 units post production capacity increase.
Moreover, the second facility will witness a major multiplication in production capacity by up to 90,000 units. This second plant is dedicated for the production of its bestselling Etios series, Corolla Altis and the new entrant, Camry sedan and the current capacity is tallied at 1,20,000 units.
At this second plant of Toyota, the automaker will assemble the new Toyota Camry sedan at the segregated assembly line established within the plant. This new assembly plant has been set up after incurring a cost of Rs. 18 crore.
As per Mr. Srikanth, the new Toyota Camry, a mid-size sedan will be rolled out as an assembled car as the localisation level is currently as low as 10 percent.
Recently, the automaker proposed hike in prices owing to rupee value depreciation effective from September this year to the tune of 1.5 percent.
