Toyota, the Japanese auto maker, seems to be working on the development of a new modular architecture, which has been named as Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Sources close to the process stated that this designing platform is almost similar to the MQB platform of the German auto maker, Volkswagen Group. Interestingly, the new platform of Toyota is expected to offer underpinnings for millions of Toyota models all over the world. However, the auto maker has not yet revealed its line-up, which will be designed under the TNGA platform.

Industry experts are of a view that the auto maker is likely to try this platform from Yaris hatchback to the Camry sedan. Toyota also plans to introduce this platform in the fleet of its luxury model line-up of Lexus. It is anticipated that the successor of Lexus CT200h will also use this platform. Along with, the hybrid range is also expected to get the treatment of this platform. Sources further said that this platform will be design the next generation Toyota Prius, which is scheduled for a launch in 2015. Also, it is expected that this model will be the first offering to get the benefit from this innovative platform.

It must be noted that the key advantage of a scalable architecture is its economical pricing as it offers a chance to diversify tooling costs and R&D budget across the entire line-up. Reportedly, the new platform will also offer sharing of electronic sub-systems in several cars and enable options like radar assisted brakes, which can be now introduced in the lower range of models.

At the same time, considering the benefits of Volkswagen Group and Audi, in the field of interior finish and design, the Japanese auto maker has devised a method of diversifying the interiors of the models. In European models, the standard of interiors has been significantly rising from more than last 15 years. Owing to this, Toyota is mulling towards remaining at the same pace and therefore, is working on some innovative projects.
