Toyota is evaluating options to bring its luxury brand, Lexus in the domestic market. Amid snail paced sales in India, luxury car segment witnessed surge in demand in last few years. Hence this would have urged the Japanese auto maker to bring in its luxury co brand, Lexus in India. On the back of new products and entry level vehicles, luxury auto makers in India have been able to lure customers to the showrooms. Currently, the German triad- BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz are ruling the premium segment in the domestic market and other auto makers including Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover are also gaining momentum in terms of sales.
The luxury segment witnessed growth in the last couple of years implying at the immense potential for such brands in the domestic market, besides the above mentioned luxury brands, India saw foray of various other renowned auto manufacturers in the domestic market. Lexus is a big name in USA automotive market where it offers all petrol powered cars for the luxury lovers. However, it is yet not known as to what all cars Lexus might contemplate to bring first in India. Industry insiders opine that sinceSUVsare the current favorites in India, therefore there is a huge possibility that Lexus might roll out a premium SUV first followed by other vehicles, though it is yet premature to comment on that. Lexus currently has threeSUVsin its line-up including RX,GXandLX. There is yet no confirmation on the time frame in regards to the launch of the brand in India, but Toyota has hinted at bringing Lexus to domestic market.
