Seeing the growing demand for sub-compact SUVs and sedans, car manufacturers are readying their products to increase sales in the highly competitive Indian auto market. If reports are to be believed, Toyota is also working on two new global cars that will also go on sale in our market as well. Both the products will fall under sub-4 metre category.

Toyota has already started doing feasibility study, and officials have started visiting to India to understand the local demand and requirements. Such activities were also done earlier when the Japanese maker was working on the Etios sedan and Liva hatchback. The compact SUV segment has been witnessing a strong response from buyers. The success of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster forced other makers including Maruti, Tata Motors and Hyundai to enter this segment.

No concrete details on the upcoming Toyota compact SUV has been revealed, but it is expected that the next-generation Toyota Rush with styling cues from the Daihatsu CUV concept could be the right product for the Indian market. The sub-4 metre sedan is likely to be based on the compact SUV platform, and will be positioned below the Etios sedan.

Toyota will also launch the new-generation Innova MPV and the Fortuner SUV in the country. It is expected that the new models will be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show. Moreover, the company is also planning to introduce a wider and younger model range for India to improve sales in the growing auto market.
