Indian auto market is flooded with a number of sedans and thus, it is quite difficult for buyers to choose the most fuel efficient model from the potpourri. Therefore, CarTrade.com has compiled a list of top 3 models that are doing their best in reducing the cost of running for its owners. Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Ford Classic and Honda Amaze are currently fighting for the title of country's most fuel efficient sedan and therefore, we have analysed their performance and mileage figures.
Heading the bandwagon, Ford India Private Limited has come up with its Classic sedan, which has been offered within a price bracket of Rs. 5.7 lakh to 8 lakh. As per company officials, the 1.4 litre TDI Duratorq diesel engine of this entry level sedan offers a mileage of 32.38 kmpl, which is best in class. Also, petrol option of Classic is also offered in the Indian auto market, powered by a 1.6 litre Duratec engine. Industry experts claim that it covers a distance of 10.5 kmpl in city and 15.3 kmpl on the highways.
Following the league, Honda Amaze has appeared with an astounding mileage of 25.8 kmpl. Interestingly, Amaze was introduced to give a direct competition to the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire in the domestic car market. It carries retail values in a range from Rs. 5 lakh and goes on till Rs. 7.6 lakh. Similar to the DZire, the Amaze has been also offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant of this entry level sedan is equipped with a 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine, whereas its diesel guise is fitted with a 1.5 litre i-DTEC Honda Earth Dreams drivetrain.
Last in the list, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's largest passenger car maker, has witnessed immense success with its entry level sedan Swift DZire in the domestic auto market. It must be noted that the model has been titled as the country’s best selling car at the moment, after it replaced its cousin Alto 800. Within a price bracket of Rs. 4.9 lakh and Rs. 7.5 lakh, Swift DZire has been a prominent choice of Indian car buyers in the entry level sedan segment. In order to cater the demands of a large section of society, the model has been offered in both petrol and diesel engine options.
The petrol trim of DZire is equipped with a 1.2 litre, K-Series engine, which produces a maximum power of of 86 bhp, along with a highest torque of 114 Nm. On the other hand, its diesel trim is fitted with a 1.3 litre DDiS engine, which has outputs of 74 bhp and 190 Nm, respectively. The petrol guise of DZire offers a mileage of 19.1 kmpl, whereas its diesel variant is rated with a mileage of 23.4 kmpl.
