Indian auto industry has a potpourri of vehicles being offered from Indian manufacturers and the global makers as well. Thus, a need for ranking the top 15 selling cars in the Indian market is must and cartrade.com has come up with a research on the same. Heading the bandwagon, here comes Maruti Suzuki Alto that leaded the sales chart in July this year after selling 17,422 units, however, the figures were slightly less than what it sold in June 2012. The main USP of the model is its economical pricing, blended with industry leading features in the entry-level small car segment.

Following the league, another contender in the list also belongs to the same manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki Swift that managed to sell 11,421 units. Number three position is again grabbed by a Maruti Suzuki model, Swift DZire, which too performed quite well after witnessing fall in its monthly sales. The auto major delivered 11,413 units of DZire, which were fairly less than 13,741 units sold in June this year. WagonR remained at number four position with almost flat sales of 9582 units.

Marking the presence of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) among the entry-level small cars, Mahindra appeared in the limelight with its new Bolero at fifth position by selling 9312 units of the same during the period. With combined sales of Indica and Vista, Tata Motor made its foray in the list of top 15 cars of the Indian auto industry as the auto maker managed to deliver 8852 units.

Premium hatchback from the South Korean maker, Hyundai i20 stood at the seventh position with sales of 7775 units. Analysts believe that the introduction of a fluidic design i20 was a smart move by the car maker, which translated into better sales. It is followed by Maruti Suzuki’s first Life Utility Vehicle (LUV) Ertiga, which occupied the eight position with sales of 7091 units.

Indigo and Manza from the stable of Tata Motor also performed fairly well in the market and managed to give the drive to 6816 new buyers in July 2012, standing at ninth position. Following the bandwagon of Utility Vehicles (UV) after Bolero, Toyota has come up with its Innova at tenth position, whose sales during the period remained almost unaffected at 6678 units.

Although Hyundai i10 was kept at bay from the top ten positions, the sales of the model did not witnessed a drop with 6113 units. Twelfth position is again bagged by Maruti Suzuki with its Omni van, which catered to the interest of 5949 buyers in July this year. The cheapest car of the world, Tata Nano, was not successful in ruling the mind of price conscious Indian buyers in July 2012 and was presented thirteenth place with sales of 5485 units. The most enthralling fact is that although Hyundai Verna performed strongly in the market, it sales were restricted to 5300 units only and was provided with fourteenth position in the review. Last in the bandwagon, fifteenth position in July 2012 sales is acquired by Hyundai Eon, which was able to lure the hearts of only 4985 new buyers.

Since the top four positions are grabbed by Maruti Suzuki, it indirectly contradicts to the major dwindling revenue loss statements issued by the top brass of the company, following the lockout at its Manesar plant. In India, the auto major is offering 15 models in total and from these, six are present in the top seller review conducted by cartrade.com. From the above analysis it can be concluded that even though there are a ton of car makers in the Indian soil, the supremacy still stays with Maruti Suzuki.
