Japanese auto maker Suzuki first launched its immensely popular model, WagonR, in 1993. Since then it has gone through several upgrades and is now running in its fifth generation. Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the Indian version of the globally sold model, Suzuki WagonR, produced in the domestic market. Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has capitalised on the success of this model to grow in the country. The 21st century saw the entry of the 'tall boy' car, WagonR, in India that gave the company a new success story, similar to what the M800 did. For years now, it has earned the name of 'value-for-money' car for the mileage and array of features it offers to customers. On a global level, major portion of success of this hatchback goes to the high sales records in India. The Indian version of this car went through its second generation in 2010, wherein it got a new platform, more interior space, trendy exteriors and under-seat tray below the front passenger seat. This immensely popular and affordable hatchback, currently, comes in six colour variants namely, Superior White, Ecru Beige, Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, Breeze Blue, Bakers Chocolate and Passion Red. The interiors come in dual tone of beige and black and the cabin is quite spacious.

It comes with several convenience features like electronic power steering (EPS), electrical OVRMs and central door locking system. Additional storage place is available in the dashboard that can be used to store bottles. Moreover, it is loaded with safety elements, such as de-fogger, rear wiper and washer along with the optional feature of Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and airbag for the driver. Taking technical specifications into consideration, the car is available in three fuel options, dual engine running on petrol and LPG, only petrol and CNG. This hatchback is equipped with the advanced K-series powertrain that gives a powerful performance on road. While the petrol variant delivers a mileage of 19.7 kmpl, the LPG variant renders around 14.6 kmpl. Cars from Maruti Suzuki are known for their high mileage and the WagonR leaves no doubt in this sector. According to reports, it is likely to launch the diesel variant in the first half of 2014.

Few months back, Maruti Suzuki introduced Stingray in India, which can be called a sporty version of the WagonR. Since its launch, Stingray has been performing pretty well in the market and is expected to occupy Maruti Suzuki's share in the hatchback segment. Initially, there were a lot of questions over Stingray overriding sales of WagonR. However, the latter has been able to manage its position without any hassles. Recently, the company has come up with the 'Madhavan' edition of Maruti Suzuki WagonR for the festive season. R.Madhavan, the South Indian actor, who happens to be the brand ambassador of this best selling hatchback has been promoting the latest edition with full vigour.

Features added in the special edition car include an autograph of the actor on the sides and rear part of the vehicle as body graphics, 2 DIN music system having USB and AUX-in support. This variant gets rear parking sensors with digital screen as additional security feature. A few more features meant to attract buyers are leather upholstered seats and steering wheel, new wheel caps, roof mounted rear spoiler and external Bluetooth kit. The USP of this car is that it gives great riding pleasure on Indian roads at a reasonable value in a country that habitats price-sensitive customers.
