The Zica hatchback from Tata Motors has been the talk of town for quite a while now. The stylish hatchback was withheld from launch owing to its name that sounded similar to the Zika epidemic. Tata Motors had organized a Fantastico name hunt contest after shortlisting three names among thousands of suggestions – Civet, Tiago and Adore. As per a fresh update, based on public votes the company has decided to go ahead with a new name ‘Tiago’ (Portuguese / Spanish name for a baby boy). It is believed that the contest is won by an individual named Mr. Libi Thomas.
Speaking more on the occasion Mayank Pareek, president, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said in the statement, “We are proud to announce the new name - Tiago for our next new hatchback. We have begun working towards launching this stylish car and are determined to place it in the market addressing all relevant needs of the target audience.” Based on the new Impact design philosophy the vehicle has been developed with inputs from UK, Italy and Pune design studios.
The upcoming Tata Tiago would be powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that generates about 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The diesel trim would be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that generates about 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Initially it would be offered with 5-speed manual transmission, while AMT may be introduced at a later date.
