Tata Motors, the South Asia's largest automobile manufacturer, has upped the ante in the domestic market by slashing the price of its Indica eV2 model by Rs. 23,000 along with the launch of a revamped version of the popular car on October 2, 2012. The eyebrow raising announcement came at a time when most of the Indian automotive operators were increasing the price of their cars. At present, the Tata Indica eV2 has diesel variants of Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo as its direct adversaries in the Indian passenger car market.
Due to the recent gloom in the Indian car market and the slackening sales figures, most of the car companies operating in the market were left with no option but to hike the price of their products. In a statement regarding the slash in price of Indica eV2, the company said, “Tata Motors today launched the refreshed Tata Indica eV2. The Tata Indica eV2 has been made even more economical with a reduction in price by Rs. 23,000. The car is also available with a MPFI petrol engine to provide customers with a wider choice. Both the engines are compliant with Bharat Stage IV emission norms.”
The Indica eV2 has been widely considered to be among the most frugal cars in the country and requires very little maintenance. Tata Motors has affirmed that the eV2 car will be powered with a 1.4 litre common rail diesel engine and delivers a fuel economy of around 25 km per litre, besides the petrol model will come with a Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) engine. The reworked avatar of eV2 sports superior interior and exterior attributes, such as seats with refined upholstery, brand new front bumper and headlamps, integrated stop lamps along with swanky alloy wheels.
