Tata Motors, one of leading vehicle manufacturer in the country has moved up to offer new age eco-friendly engine technology and transmission options. Tata Motors claims that the next-gen technology offers best in class driving experience, fuel efficiency, performance and value proposition to customers. The new engine includes the Revotron and the Revotorq options, while its premium JLR brand gets the Ingenium engines.

The Revotron family includes three and four-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engines. The older four-cylinder unit generates 84bhp of power at 5000rpm and 140Nm of torque, while the newer three-cylinder units generate 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The Revotron engine has an aluminum body with a stiffened crankcase and smart electronic control which claims to minimise noise and vibrations while ensuring precise control. The Tata Tiago, a popular seller, is the first one to get the 1.05-litre diesel engine that generates 70bhp of power and 140Nm of torque from 1800rpm. Both the engine also offer multi drive modes – Eco and City. Under the premium JLR brand, the company has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which powers the XF and the XE models. This time around, the company has also started production for the 2.0-litre four cylinder Ingenium petrol engine from April 2017. The new petrol Ingenium engine will be offered in JLR vehicle over the next few months.

As for new-age transmission option, the company introduced the 6L50 automatic transmission in the recently launched Hexa and the Xenon. The six-speed automatic is electronically controlled with two overdrive gear ratios. Passenger cars also get the intelligent gear shift indicator which prompts the operator to select the gear, which ensures the best balance of fuel economy and driving performance. Tata cars also get the easy shift technology which in comparison to conventional ATS, is designed to offer optimum combination of driving comfort, with performance, fuel economy and better affordability.

Tata Motors has also been working on the next-gen DICR engines which will be available in 3-litre and 5-litre capacities, mostly under the commercial vehicle category. The company claims that these engines will offer best-in-class fuel economy, low cost of ownership, impressive performance and will be BS IV compliant and are design protected to meet future emission requirements (BS VI). For commercial Ultra bus with Gen 3-litre engine the company has offered the six-speed G550 Automated Manual Transmission.
