Fiat is likely to sell Tata's ultra cheap car, Nano, in the international market. Tata has proposed a marketing alliance with Fiat to sell its famous 1 lakh car internationally. ''We have held talks about the Nano being marketed in markets where Fiat has already a strong presence. I am open to consider a partnership," said Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Group, at an Indo-Italian business forum.

Tata Motors has signed contract with Fiat four years ago to sell its cars, commercial vehicles and engines. It sells Fiat cars and engines in India and now plans to make trucks and buses in India with Iveco truck unit of Fiat. Talks with Iveco are likely to resume after Tata Motors completes its acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover.

President of Fiat, Luca Montezemolo, relayed similar sentiments by expressing that Fiat hopes to share similar platforms and engines with Tata. Fiat is also open to talks with Tata "without any precise programme, without restrictions on the possibility of collaborating with Iveco."

Both the companies are exploring the possibilities of consolidating commercial ties between India and Italy and also plan to explore new possibilities of trade and cooperation.
