      Tata Motors emerges as flagship of Tata Group in second year in a row

      Tata Motors, the largest vehicle maker in the Indian market has emerged as the flagship company of the Tata Group with registering highest sales and net profit. This is the second year in a row when Tata Motors has registered this feat.

      The total sales of Tata Motors stood at 1,65,000 crore, along with registering a net profit of 13,500 crore. There has been a fivefold increase in the company’s net profit 13,517 crore in the financial year 2012 as compared to 2,571 crore registered in the fiscal 2010.

      The British subsidiary Jaguar & Land Rover has played a major role in making Tata Motors the flagship of the Tata Group. At present, JLR accounts for about 90 percent of the company’s consolidated bottom line. JLR has revised the capital expenditure for financial year 2012-13 to £2 billion from an earlier plan of investing £1.5 billion.

      Tata Motors has managed to surge ahead considerably from erstwhile flagship company Tata Steel, which was the flagship of Tata Group in year 2010. The net profit of the company stood at 5,390 crore in the last fiscal as compared to 8,983 crore registered in the year 2010.

      Tata
