Tata Motors has stated that it will once again have talks with the West Bengal government about the Singur land where the original Nano factory was located. It is widely known that Tata Motors had to shut down its nearly complete project last year amidst violent protests. These protests were staged by agitated farmers led by the Opposition party Trinamool Congress headed by Mamata Banerjee.

Tata Motors has apparently shown interest once again in the land after state principal industry secretary Sabyasachi Sen said the world’s smallest car would be made there. “Tata Motors will discuss matters related to the Singur plot, which is on lease with the company, with the West Bengal government,” the firm said, when asked about principal industry secretary Mr Sen’s claim that the Rs 1-lakh car Nano would “definitely be made in West Bengal”.

What remains to be seen is that if there is any element of truth in the matter or mere ‘before-election-promises-never-to-be-fulfilled’.
