Maruti Suzuki’s compact car the Swift surpassed 5 million sales worldwide, earlier in April. The Swift was launched in November 2004 as a world strategic model and it took them 11 years and 5 months to reach this prestigious mark.
The Swift brought innovative changes to Suzuki’s car-making technique, earning high appraisal for its sporty, stylish, and fun to drive character and winning several awards worldwide. The hatchback is currently being manufactured in seven countries and is on sale in more than 140 countries.
The Swift’s sales in India makes up 54 per cent of the overall 5 million global sales, proving it a popular choice with Indian buyers. Maruti also kept widening their customer base by the addition of the 1.3 Fiat-sourced diesel engine and a sedan version in the form of the Dzire. Till today, 430,000 units of the Swift are sold every year which accounts for 30 per cent of Maruti’s overall sales in India. The Swift is still going strong and is showing no signs of slowing down!
