Skoda Auto India, a subsidiary of the Czech Republic based car maker, is all set to bring back its iconic Octavia brand name in the Indian market next year. The company is planning to replace its Laura model with Octavia. The all new Skoda sedan has been codenamed as A7 by the company, and it will be marking its debut in the global market at the Geneva motor show, next year.

The new Octavia will be of a bigger size as compared to the Laura sedan, and will be based on Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform.

While speaking to the reporters at the recently held Delhi International Auto Expo 2012, Professor Winfried Vahland, said, “I like the name Octavia; it’s the best-selling car for Skoda and will definitely come back to India.”

The Octavia model was introduced in the Indian market about a decade back, when company decided to roll-out first generation of Octavia as an up-market car in the country. The car was discontinued in the country following the implementation of the new generation BS-IV emission norms, in April 2010. After discontinuing the Octavia model gradually in major cities, the company finally stopped producing the model in July 2010.
