BMW will take the wraps off its seven-generation BMW 5 Series on October 13 and will bring the car here in 2017. This is the German automaker’s mid-size sedan and will be offered across a range of petrol and diesel engines.

      Next-gen BMW 5 Series

As is the case with most BMW cars these days, the design appears to be evolutionary rather than something completely new. It is all there - the kidney grille, slick head lamps and wrap around tail lamps making this car identifiable as a BMW. However, it is expected to get longer, wider and sit lower than the outgoing model.

Teaser videos and spy shots of the cabin reveal that most of the design has been carried over from the current car but with some major upgrades like a new infotainment system and better materials for the cabin. It is underneath that most of the work has been done as this car is underpinned by the new CLAR architecture which has allowed it to become 100kgs lighter than the F10 model.

Given the importance of the 5 Series to BMW India’s operations, we believe that the new car will be offered here on par with the global launch and be locally assembled to keep prices competitive. It will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (which will get upgraded next year), Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
