Datsun Go, being a new entry in the tough to compete hatchback segment has been doing well in the local market with over 5000 cars reportedly being sold since its recent launch in the country. Going by the popularity of Datsun’s GO hatchback, the Japanese automaker has decided to open standalone dealerships of its low cost brand. The exquisite Datsun showrooms will be launched in India within next six months. Currently, the Datsun Go hatchback is being sold in the country by parent company, Nissan’s outlets in India.

Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan Motor India, said, “The transition has been smooth, and we are in the process of strengthening our sales, marketing and service teams. Almost all dealers have come under our fold. We have also received a lot of proposals from our existing dealers to open exclusive outlets for Datsun brand. We will make decision on those proposals by the end of this month.” After Nissan’s split with Hover Automotive India (former partner), the company is looking out for a viable option to partner with, rumors suggest that Nissan will decide on the new tie up by the end of this month. The company plans on opening Datsun dealerships across cities where the demand is maximum followed by other cities in India. The first MPV under the Datsun branding is expected to be launched by festive season this year.

Driving Nissan’s sales by almost 50 per cent with 2691 units of GO hatchback sold in April, Datsun is definitely gaining momentum in the domestic market. Standalone showrooms will give a further boost to the sales of the hatchback and will in turn help brand to strengthen its roots in India. With other Datsun cars lined up to be launched in India soon, an independent dealership network will help assure customers of a strong after sales service provided by Datsun.

As per reports, GO+ shall be powered by Nissan’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine which generates about 68 PS of power and 104 Nm of peak torque. The MPV shall be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Moreover, overall kerb weight of the car is a good 794 kgs that makes it faster and efficient than the rest in this segment. Furthermore, it is also one of the lightest MPVs that has been put up for sale in India. There are certain excise duty benefits that come with cars in the sub-4m bracket, and Datsun Go+ with an overall length of 3995 mm makes it befitting in this category. The pricing for this MPV shall also be well within the competitive range to draw a swarm of interested buyers.
