Tata Motors, the largest auto maker of the South Asia, seems prepared to pull off the curtains from its much-hyped Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Safari Storme in the Indian auto market. Analysts believe that the upcoming model will hit the Indian showrooms very soon and to be precise, in the following month. Earlier this year, the model was exhibited at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and was able to pull the masses across its stand.
Industry experts speculate that the car will be offered with a DiCOR engine, which will have a displacement of 2179 cc. It is believed that the maximum power generated by the engine of this car will stand at 140 bhp at 4000 rpm with a peak torque of 320 Nm at a fairly low 1700 rpm. In order to add to the potential of the powertrain, it is expected that the engine of Safari Storme will be mated with a five speed manual transmission system. The same configuration is being offered by the existing version of Safari, which has carved a special niche for itself in the market.
With a speculated price range of Rs. 8.5-10.45 lacs, the car is anticipated to deliver a stiff competition to other big players of the same segment. The SUV segment is currently dominated by Mahindra Scorpio, same manufacturer’s XUV500 and Renault Duster, which are expected to witness a shrink in their market share post the launch of Tata’s new Safari Storme.
Bringing the exterior appearance of Safari’s new avatar in limelight, the model has a boxy shape, which suits the image of a full-fledged SUV. Black polished horizontal front grille in the front fascia holds the badge of Tata Motors at its centre, providing an aggressive look to the car. The fog lamps in front are placed much lower on the bumper, enabling better manoeuvring during foggy days.
Analysts believe that the upcoming model will feature the industry experience of Tata Safari and will bank on the technology of Jaguar Land Rover. Considering the launch of its new car, it seems that Tata Motors will leave no stone unturned to make most out of their new car. Safari is already a well-established name in the Indian auto industry, which is bound to help the car maker place its new offering aggressively in the market.
XUV500 being a big hit in the Indian market indicates the penchant of domestic buyers towards big-sized cars, which reflect their status in the community. Cashing on this liking of customers, the 2012 Safari Storme is expected to create a ‘Storm’ in the market, post its launch.
