After being a small car exports hub, now you can expect India to become a research and development hub for various American and European companies. Auto makers from all over the world are also there to join the race to open their R&D centers in India owing to cheaper outsourcing. Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai are all in queue for the same.

Maruti Suzuki had already announced that it shall strengthen its research and development aspect for developing new small cars especially suitable for the Indian customers. It also intends to develop products similar to those being developed in Japan. The company has already been allotted 700 acres of land in Rohtak by Haryana government to set up its new R&D unit. 600 acres of land will be used for the R&D facility and rest 100 acres will be allotted to the vendors to set up their ancillary units in the premises.

Maruti Suzuki will invest Rs. 1000 crores in this facility to make it world class and second only to the one in Japan. The facility, which will also house a test course and ancillary units, will be the largest of Suzuki's R&D units outside Japan. It will serve as the R&D hub for the entire Asian region. Maruti Suzuki's facility in Gurgaon can be used only for limited design development activities and the new hub will surely usher in a new period of innovation.
