Renault India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the French auto maker Renault, has announced that it would recall 7016 units of its Pulse premium hatchback and Scala mid-size sedan due to a mechanical fault. The defective models were assembled at the company's Oragadam manufacturing facility in Chennai, and have been fitted with a faulty master brake cylinder. This comes just after Renault's global strategic alliance partner Nissan announced a vehicle recall of its Micra and Sunny cars that were also manufactured at the Chennai facility.
The official statement released by the company quoted, “Renault is conducting a voluntary recall campaign in India on 2836 Pulse and 4180 Scala vehicles, respectively, produced between 01st June 2012 and 15th March 2013 to replace the brake master cylinder. Renault India will contact all the affected customers at the launch of our voluntary campaign and Renault India dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and brake fluid at no cost to the customer.”
As per reports, Nissan Motor India is recalling 22188 units of its Micra hatchback and Sunny mid-size sedans, on account of the same technical issue. Further, Renault India would be recalling 2836 units and 4180 units of its faulty Pulse and Scala models. According to the French auto maker, there is a possibility that the faulty master brake cylinder could lead to faster brake pedal wear out. Further, no component failures have been detected in Pulse and Scala models so far in the country.
Renault India has affirmed that it would replace faulty master brake cylinder free of charge and has also informed its dealers about the development. Expressing his views on the latest recall, a senior executive at Renault India Private Limited was quoted as saying, “The company has taken a pro-active measure and plans to begin notifying individual customers directly. The Renault dealers will replace the master brake cylinder at no cost to the customer. The change should take not more than 40 minutes to change the faulty part like the brake cylinder and its fluid.” The company has dispatched notices to the concerned customers and would start the recall process from next week.
