Red light jumping is a serious penal offence and has been touted as one of the major causes for accident related casualties. With the expanding urban areas and ever increasing traffic and roads, increasing number of traffic lights are nothing but inevitable. The population explosion has also added to the traffic woes, as more and more people are purchasing vehicles for carrying out their daily obligations like work, business and miscellaneous other requirements.

The most acute reason for traffic light jumping is the exponential rise in the vehicle population. Most red lights lose their purpose if the traffic becomes too high than the road's capacity and the drivers succumb towards running the red lights. Hence, if a driver is too much in a hurry, he runs the red light knowing very well that his life could face grave danger. However, red lights do help in the easement of traffic flow and its absence could put the urban cities in a state of utter chaos.

The red light running incidents could end in grievous accidents comprising fatalities and serious injury to the people involved. In many instances, the carelessness of a certain individual ends up by taking a life of another and devastating the life of the victim's family. An act of simple ignorance could not have much worse result and thus, automobile drivers should absolutely refrain themselves from engaging in such a dangerous act, all for few seconds of avoiding waiting for the green light.

Apart from the hasty commuters, the distracted and inattentive drivers comprise another similar category of red light jumpers. These kind of offenders ignore the on-road circumstances by not paying proper attention or getting distracted during driving. Evidently, distractions can be considered even bigger problem and is not merely limited to jumping red lights.

Every day several thousands of motor-vehicles are added on the roads and soon a time will come when the Indian roads will lose its handling capacity and people will start planting tents to survive the never ending traffic jams. So, unless that inevitable episode arrives, we should follow traffic rules and must devote our utmost attention while driving and must also avoid red light jumping. As, prevention is better than cure, besides we may hold our own life in our hands but life of others are just as precious as ourselves and should never be taken for granted.
