Production of new-gen Jeep Wrangler to commence in November

The Cherokee, which was produced at the Toledo plant, will be shifted to the Belvidere factory in Illinois, Chicago. After which a part of the Toledo facility will shut down for six months to adjust the tooling and assembly line for the new Wrangler. The part shut down at Torpedo won’t affect the production of the current generation JK Wrangler which is speculated to be produced by mid of next year. This means that the JK and JL Wranglers will continue to exist side-by-side for around eight months. Reason being the current unmet demand for the Wrangler, both in the U.S and globally. After the JK production ceases at Torpedo, it will make way for additional Wrangler variants, including a Wrangler-based pickup which will be launched a year after.

FCA hasn’t revealed any details of when the new generation Wrangler will be revealed. But since the production is starting late-2017, the Wrangler is anticipated to be revealed in the second half of the year. In India, the Wrangler is imported as a CBU and it will take the same route with the new generation Wrangler with an expected debut in early 2018.
