It was just last week that the Opel Insignia GSi hatchback was unveiled, and the company had not mentioned anything about a sports tourer being developed. Now, our spy photographers have spotted the Insignia GSi station wagon testing.
Apart from the obvious lack of camouflage, we recognised that this station wagon has the sporty GSi treatment thanks to the same red-hot paint shade and the brembobrake calipersfrom the Insignia GSi hatchback. However, one can expect this version to also getsame red treatment on the brake calipers.
Also, we can easily confirm that the additional length of this model will liberate atleast an extra 50 litres of boot space. That aside, powering the Insignia GSi station wagon is the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that also powers the Insignia GSi hatch. It makes 260bhp and 400Nm of torque, which is enough juice to make this station wagon brisk, by most standards.
From the way Opel was seen testing its Insignia GSi station wagon without any cladding whatsoever, we assume that this is the production version. It may debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September alongside the Insignia GSi hatch.
