Dodge, a North-America based automobile manufacturing subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC, has plans to revive its Caliber model and is expected to showcase the same at the upcoming 2012 Detroit Motor Show.

Earlier, there was the lot of speculation that the new model will be named Hornet. However, Reid Biglund, the head of Dodge, U.S. Sales and Canadian operations, has confirmed that the new model will not be named Hornet.

Caliber was a compact car produced by Dodge that went on sale during spring 2006 as a 2007 model year vehicle. The compact vehicle first debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 and later the production version was presented at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on 10th January 2006, after which it went on sale in March the same year.

The compact marvel was an instant success in the North American auto car market in 2007 and went on to become the first Dodge car to reach European, Asian and Australian markets after Dodge Colt, which was discontinued back in 1994. Currently, Caliber is the smallest and cheapest car from Dodge available in American and Canadian markets.

Sources have revealed that the company is aiming to refurbish the Caliber model in order to make it more competitive in the automobile market. The Dodge Caliber will be replaced with a model that is made on a modified platform of the Compact Wide. The model will be powered with a 1.4-litre MultiAir engine that is expected to generate maximum power between 101 bhp and 173 bhp.

The automobile brand has remained tight-lipped about other details about the new model. However, further details are expected to surface before the vehicle is officially showcased at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. Thus, consumers who have shown keen interest in Dodge cars over the years will certainly have something to look forward to at the Detroit Motor Show.
