Owing to faulty braking system in its hatchback Micra and popular sedan Sunny, Nissan is planning to conduct a voluntary recall of around 22,188 units of both the vehicles in India. Vehicles manufactured between June 2012 and March 2013 will be recalled in India by the Japanese auto maker. The recall is not confined to India and will also be conducted in other auto markets including Africa, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East markets and Asia. A total of 67,089 units of both the cars will be recalled for master brake cylinder including the 22,188 units to be rectified in India only. The company has specified that it is a voluntary recall, Nissan as of yet has not registered any complaints in India.

Company’s concern is over the prolonged brake pedal travel which users might experience while operating braking system under the light braking force. This could get worse if the customers experience reduced braking performance leading to increased braking distances required to stop the car.

The procedure of recall will begin shortly; the company will notify its customers before commencing the recall. Master brake cylinders will be replaced by the Nissan retailers, the customers will not be liable to pay anything for the replacement.

Nissan displayed a string of models at the 2014 Auto Expo including facelifted Sunny sedan, upgraded Evalia MPV, GT-R GT500 and Friend-Me Concept. The company is eyeing to increase its market share from present 1.1 % to 10% in coming three to four years. Japanese auto maker is said to be developing a sub-four meter sedan and a compact SUV for the domestic market. These vehicles are likely to be based on the Micra platform. Nissan presently does not have a compact SUV in its India stable; companies like Renault and Ford have launched compact SUVs that are roping in good response from customers.
