Nissan Motor Company, the renowned Japanese multinational car maker, has revealed the teaser of new model under its low cost Datsun brand. From the unveiled teaser, the upcoming Datsun car looks futuristic and flaunts sharp angular headlamps with a small grille completing its stylish front fascia. Further, the front grille has the Datsun emblem in middle, which is nothing but stunning. The Japanese auto major has affirmed that the new passenger vehicle will see commercial launch somewhere in the 2014 calendar year.

Nissan Motor Co. has declined to reveal the technical specifications of the upcoming Datsun model, but said that it will have a strong independent brand image amid competition. The Japanese car maker has announced that it will introduce its low cost Datsun brand in the auto markets of India, Russia, Indonesia and South Africa in the near future. Expressing his views on the new development, Vincent Cobee, Corporate Vice President (VP), Datsun, has been quoted as saying, “Datsun's key values – accessible, reliable and modern - are designed to accommodate the needs and aspirations of this target group, just as it did for similarly optimistic customers in Japan, America and a large part of the world during most of the 20th century.”

The Japanese auto major has also revealed that it will introduce four brand new models in the domestic passenger car market in the near future. Nissan Motor India Private Limited (NMIPL), the domestic subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co., is working towards expanding its footprints by bringing new products and increasing production capacity in the country. Commenting on the future launches in India, Nitish Tipnis, Director, Sales and Marketing, Hover Automotive, a partner of Nissan, was quoted as saying, “We are planning to launch four new products in the current fiscal, including Datsun. We are targeting the first car buyers with this model and we also expect this to give us the much required volumes.”

At present, NMIPL is working on increasing its market share in the country. Speaking on the same, Takayuki Ishida, Managing Director (MD), Nissan Motor India, said, “We are working with a long-term target of achieving 10 per cent share in the market by fiscal 2016. The current share is about 1.6 per cent. We have worked out a strategy to grow the market share by expanding the dealer network and rolling out more new models.”
