Nissan India mulling over introducing its famous electric car, the Leaf, in the Indian market. The company, however, plans to gauge the customer’s response in India before making any firm launch plans. Nevertheless, there’s a good chance that the new Leaf might make its way to the 2018 Auto Expo.

The next generation Nissan Leaf will be unveiled to the world in September this year. This new Leaf is rumoured to have a driving range of 350-300kms, thanks to the bigger 60 kWh battery. This new EV will also have more space as the company has paid a lot of attention to making the inside very comfortable.

The electric vehicle segment in India has been slow to pick up pace. Lack of proper infrastructure and high battery costs are the two main reasons why this segment still hasn’t moved beyond the nascent stage in India. However, things are expected to change now, as the government has been pushing determinedly for cleaner and greener cars. In fact, the government is hoping that by 2030, only electric cars will be sold in the country.

Tesla is another company that is keen on starting sales in India with the Model 3. However, the American manufacturer needs to source 30 per cent of its components from India before being permitted to make its debut.
