The Japanese auto maker, Nissan Motors introduced its first urban class vehicle, Evalia, in the Indian auto industry on September 25, 2012, which was directly placed against the likes of Toyota Innova. The recently introduced model was well appreciated by the Indian buyers, which is clearly seen by its 160 bookings within just a week of its launch.

Nissan Evalia and Toyota Innova are strong contenders against each other and possess a great challenge. Although the Evalia has been provided with Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) looks, the model is much lighter than the other vehicles based on the ladder frames. Therefore despite being having a 1000 cc smaller engine, the recently launched model from Nissan stands against Innova on the grounds of performance owing to its lower weight.

Although Innova may be little heavier, its powertrain is more responsive, which probably helps the driver in overtaking the other vehicle easily. The engine of Innova also cruises well and delivers a perfect feel of driving a gigantic vehicle; however, the refinements of its engine and transmission system are not the best. Also, gear knob of the model vibrates a little on higher speeds.

Considering the ride quality of both the vehicles, Evalia feels smaller than its actual size owing to its light and accurate steering wheel and low turning radius. The tyres of Nissan Evalia hold a decent grip over the roads, which make the handling of the model safe as long as the driver does not exceed the speed limit. Overall stability of the vehicle is brilliant, however strong winds on high speeds appears to rock the model. The rear suspensions are little inefficient, which makes the vehicle bouncy on Indian potholes.

On the other hand, Toyota Innova has a better ride quality than Evalia. The power assisted steering wheel of the model requires little more effort in traffic, while makes the driver feel better on high speeds. Lower stance of the model makes its body control more stable, which is quite good. The model delivers a perfect feel of driving a MPV, which leave its occupants enticed.

Nissan Evalia happens to be a practical MPV owing to its spacious cabin and driver friendly features. The positive point for the vehicle is that it matches the performance of Innova despite having a much smaller engine. And within a price range of Rs. 8.49 lacs to Rs. 9.99 lacs, Nissan Evalia is considerably more economical than Innova. However, industry experts also have to say that Evalia is not a perfect vehicle as its rear windows are much smaller in size, which are a major irritant. Considering design of the model, in a first look it reflects a van type look.

However, Innova has an appealing look and appears better than Evalia. The model also features a more premium reputation as its top of the line variant is priced around Rs. 14 lacs. The ride quality and handling aspects of Innova are better and its diesel engine is significantly doing a great job. On the terms of price, Innova is little expensive but with its additional cost, the owner is provided with a performance oriented model, which gives a pleasure of driving on long routes. Conveying a statement on whether which model steps ahead, the decision lies on the interest and area of operation of buyers.
