Fiat has started testing the next-generation Punto, which is expected to be launched in 2017. The test mules of the car were recently sighted taking rounds in the Betim region around the manufacturer's production facility in Brasil.
Though the test mules were heavily camouflaged, they give away some details that we can expect from the new Punto. The tail lamps will carry over the Christmas-tree arrangement, but will be restyled and get redesigned illumination bits. The bumpers will be revamped and the car will sport new alloy wheels with a two-tone treatment. Codenamed as the X6H, this iteration of the Punto is also expected to get a longer wheelbase. The fascia will get sweptback headlamps and this time might also get a projector setup.
The next-gen Punto is expected to be powered by new set of modern engines. Reports suggest that this might include a new 1.4-litre GSE (Global small engine) petrol mill and on the diesel front, there might be a new version of the 1.3-litre Multijet turbo diesel motor.
The details on the new Fiat Punto are very scarce, but the new vehicle is expected to replicate the current car's charm and improve its performance. It is more than a decade now that Punto made its debut in India and is still known for its solid built quality and unique design. Hopefully, the latest iteration should not only retain the same characteristics, but also better them.
This new generation Punto will then replace the existing car across Latin American markets and probably also the European countries. It might be unveiled next year at the Geneva Motor show and launch in Brasil in the first half of 2017. This is when it will make its way to the Indian market as well.
