Nissan Micra will be the first model from Nissan’s product portfolio that will be developed on the newly developed global car platform. The new model will be used to develop cars that will not only be cheap and cost effective for the emerging markets but will also be attractive enough for the Western Europe. Currently car makers strip down the existing models from European markets and launch them in the emerging market at attractive prices.
Nissan has developed its new platform that is specifically for the emerging markets but adapts itself for more matured markets like Western Europe also. The new platform has been developed in Japan and focuses on number of components and reduction of weight. This is the new V-platform developed by Nissan that will strengthen cars up to 1600kgs and of torque up to 147 lb ft. Nissan’s new platform will have cars that can be fitted highest with a 1.5L turbo-diesel engine.
The first of the model to be built on the new platform will be Micra, a small MPV and a small saloon.
The new Micra will be dubbed a “global compact car” and will be sold all over the world in nearly 150 countries. Apart from two undisclosed locations, this global compact car will be manufactured in India, China and Thailand.
