Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, is working on the next generation Elantra sedan, which is scheduled to be unveiled this year. According to the Korean media, the picture given here is the 2016 Elantra aka Avante saloon. The sedan is expected to be unveiled in the Korean market next month. The 2016 Elantra sedan is likely to be launched in the home market in the second half of 2015.
Based on an all-new platform, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra gets a revolutionary styling. It takes design cues from the Hyundai i40 facelift, which was unveiled in December 2014. It is visible that the sedan looks much more appealing and mature than the current model. The front fascia of the sedan gets a large trapezoidal grille flanked by sweptback headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. Like many new-gen Hyundai models, the 2016 Elantra too will be designed at the Hyundai Motor European Design Center in Russelsheim, Germany.
The Hyundai Elantra saloon is expected to get newly developed four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is likely to be a new 1.6-litre T-GDI unit that also powers the new generation Tucson SUV. This new engine is capable of producing 134bhp in naturally aspirated version and 176bhp in turbocharged version. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual. The oil burner could be a new 1.7-litre unit that is good for 115bhp. There could also be a 2.0-litre unit that offers two states of tunes- 136bhp and 184bhp.
Though there are rumours that the company might launch the facelifted model of the car in India, we believe that Hyundai might bring in the new-gen model instead.
