American automaker, General Motors is aiming to improve its sales and market share in the Indian car market. The company is also focusing on its exports to reduce its losses in the market. To do that, GM India is aiming to enter the growing sub-4 metre compact sedan and compact SUV segment. Adding to it, the company will also launch the next generation Chevrolet Beat in the Indian car market. Reports suggest that the next Beat would come by 2016-17.

The early prototype of the hatchback has been recently spotted testing in Korea, which hints at its unveiling anytime next year. The next Beat hatch is expected to be larger than the current generation model. If media reports are to be believed, the wheelbase of the upcoming hatchback has been increased, which in return contributes to its spacious cabin. This could be a move to offer better cabin experience for buyers, which the current model lacks.

The next generation Chevrolet Beat would continue to be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. It is propelled by a three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged ECOTEC engine which is tuned to offer two states of tunes- 90PS and 115PS and a peak torque of 166Nm. The company might also add an automatic version of the hatchback to compete well against the likes of Honda Brio, Hyundai Grand i10 and others. The oil burner is the 1.0-litre unit that also powers the current model.
