General Motors is working on the new generation Beat (Spark in International Markets) hatchback, which is likely to make its official debut early next year. The Beat hatchback has been the company’s top selling car; however, the sales of the vehicle dropped considerably due to increasing competition in the segment. With new models, the maker is aiming to further enhance its sales and market share globally. The new Chevrolet Beat has been recently spotted in Korea where it is sold as Spark.

The model for the US and Korean market will be based on the new Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva platform, which will be unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month. However, the India-spec model is reportedly based on an all-new platform. Recently, GM announced that they are working on the ‘Amber’ platform, and it is expected that the next Beat for the Indian and Brazilian market will be based on this platform.

The new Amber based hatchback will come as a replacement for the current Chevrolet Beat in India. The hatchback is expected to be launched by 2016-17, until then, the maker will continue to offer the current Beat and Sail hatchbacks. In order to keep things fresh, GM will timely upgrade the hatchback in India.

The new Chevrolet Beat aka Spark is likely to get the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of developing about 90bhp or 115bhp of power and 166Nm of peak toque. Both manual and automatic transmission driving the power to front wheels will come as standard.
